Garriga plants

OBJECTIVES

To raise awareness on the the garrigue plants since they are the closest plants we have in the Mediterranean.
To raise awareness on the importance of not keeping tortoises in captivity.
To promote awareness on and indigenous knowledge of the native breeds of domestic animals.

DEVELOPMENT

The magazines “Plantes de garriga” (Garriga plants), “S.O.S tortugues” (S.O.S. Turtles) and “Races autòctones” (Native breeds), were created published and distributed to participating schools. A mobile garden of garriga plants was created to take to these schools, where land tortoises were also taken to raise awareness among children that a tortoise is not a pet. As a result of these visits, the schools got involved and began to collect tortoises that were in captivity. In CEIP Levante in Inca, there was also a  “toca-toca” (touch and feel) exhibition of indigenous domestic animals.

MAGAZINES

18,000 magazines were distributed in the educational centres of the Mancomunitat des Raiguer and Mancomunitat des Pla.

PARTICIPANTS

A total of 2,500 pupils from 36 towns of the Mancomunitat des Raiguer and Mancomunitat des Pla, Sa Pobla and Bunyola.
