ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CAMPAIGN

2024/2025

The Mediterranean Climate

Ecosystems of the Balearic Islands

OBJECTIVES

The campaign was aimed at schoolchildren from Raiguer and the Pla community, to help them understand the Mediterranean climate and its influence on the ecosystems of the Balearic Islands. The intention was to promote awareness and knowledge of the different types of plant formations that exist in Mallorca, the ecosystems they belong to, and the animals that live there. The goal was to expand knowledge of the island’s nature while fostering respect for the environment.

DEVELOPMENT

Two new magazines were published: “The Mediterranean Climate and its Plant Communities” and “Ecosystems of the Balearic Islands.” Fifteen trips were made to different ecosystems in suitable locations: marine ecosystems in Son Serra de Marina; terrestrial ecosystems in the forests of Lluc; mixed ecosystems in the riparian forest of the torrents of Sant Miquel and Vinagrella and in the Can Figuera lagoons; the artificial ecosystem in the Talayotic village of Turassot and in the rustic farms of Costitx.

As in recent years, a drawing and writing contest was held on the topics covered. On June 9, prizes were awarded for the best drawings and writings from all the schools that participated in the activities.

20 YEARS OF ACTIVITIES

A Lasting Commitment

Two decades ago, CEMEX decided to embark on an adventure with GADMA. We did not know then the lasting impact this collaboration would have, but we were convinced that investing in the environmental education of the youngest was essential to build a more sustainable future. GADMA repeats it in every outing with the schoolchildren: “we will pass, the earth; with its animal and floral ecosystems will remain and must endure.”

During these twenty years, we have had the privilege of seeing thousands of students from nearby educational centers explore, learn, and marvel at the richness of the flora and fauna of our environment. We have witnessed the spark of curiosity and respect for nature ignite in each of them. And this, without a doubt, is the greatest success.

From GADMA, we want to highlight CEMEX’s constant commitment as a collaborator. This commitment goes beyond mere financial support; it is a declaration of our educational values. We are grateful to have been able to obtain the necessary resources to carry out the campaigns year after year. We look forward to continuing to cultivate this commitment for many more years.

MAGAZINES

1,500 copies of the magazine “The Mediterranean Climate and its Plant Communities” were published; the same quantity was published for the magazine “Ecosystems of the Balearic Islands.”

PARTICIPANTS

In this edition, schools from the Raiguer community and the Pla community participated, totaling 780 children. We also organized an outing with centers for special people.
