ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CAMPAIGN

2016/2017

Traditional plants and their uses

OBJECTIVES

To raise awareness regarding the natural environment amongst primary school pupils; to teach them about the species of flora and explain their traditional uses. Raise awareness of the participants and environmental consciousness in order to develop good practices in our natural environment and sustainability.

DEVELOPMENT

Distribution of the magazine “Plantes d’un temps” (Traditional plants and their uses) in the educational centres, which was later used as a tool in the school outings. These outings were carried out in places close to the villages or schools to promote knowledge of the plants in the environment that have traditionally been used for cooking, domestic or medicinal purposes, reinforcing this knowledge with cardboards that were handed out to the pupils to draw the plants that they observed. During the outings, the natural spaces visited were cleaned of plastics and other waste.
As an extraordinary activity, with the CEIP Assumpció school in Binissalem, an outing was organised to Son Serra de Marina with the educational magazine “Balears i la mar” (The Balearic Islands and the sea) and a clean-up of waste from the coast was carried out.

MAGAZINES

3,000 magazines and posters were published for the “Traditional plants and their uses” campaign. Most of them were distributed to schools.

PARTICIPANTS
