OBJECTIVES
The campaign was aimed at schoolchildren from the area of Raiguer and Palma: Understanding of the plants in their natural surroundings – which have always been used for a variety of food, domestic and medicinal purposes… – Awareness of the marine environment, species of flora and the fauna of the coastal area. Become aware of the importance of the current environmental problems (waste generation, pollution, climate change, the greenhouse effect, consumerism, etc.).
Raise awareness among the participants of the importance of conservation and respect for the environment. Understanding the recycling of wastewater in Mallorca, as well as the importance of giving it a second life.
DEVELOPMENT
The magazines ‘Traditional Plants and their uses, ‘The Balearic Islands and the sea’ and ‘The land we have left’ were published. Six school trips were organised to Ses Fonts Ufanes to learn about the local plants. Five trips were made to Son Serra de Marina (Santa Margalida) to learn about the marine environment and its present-day problems. And three school outings were made to the Llacunes de Can Figuera (Binissalem) to learn about the problems of waste, atmospheric pollution, water pollution… the climate change itself caused by the humans; also, to reflect on the fact that any small action carried out by many becomes a big action.
As in recent years, a drawing and writing competition was held on the topics discussed. On the 3rd of June, prizes were awarded to the best 11 drawings and the 9 best essays from all the schools that participated in the activities. In addition, a special prize was awarded to a girl from the 1st grade of Alaró for her involvement and her reflections during the day of the activity.
