ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CAMPAIGN

2021/2022

Traditional plants and their uses

The Planet we have left

OBJECTIVES

Knowledge of the natural environment, species of flora and their traditional uses, as well as identifying the present species. To promote conservation and respect for the environment. To be aware of the current problems (waste generation, pollution, climate change, greenhouse effect, effects of consumption, etc.). To be aware of good practices for the conservation of the natural environment. Raising awareness among participants. Recovering areas close to the participants by means of waste removal actions.

Parallel to the activities, a contest was organized, distributing cards to draw the observed plants and cards to write an essay about the campaign “The Planet we have left “. The awards ceremony for the best 6 drawings and the 6 best essays took place in the cultural center Ca’n Gelabert (Binissalem).

DEVELOPMENT

The magazines “Plantes d’un temps” (Traditional plants and their uses) and “The Planet we have left” were published. Outings were carried out – which were adapted to the closest suitable environment for each of the schools – to get to know and value the natural habitat and how to preserve it, and to promote knowledge of the plants that should be used traditionally for food, domestic or medicinal purposes. Plastic and other waste was removed from these areas.

MAGAZINES

Publication of 3.000 magazines of “Plantes d’un temps” and 3.000 magazines of “The Planet we have left”.

PARTICIPANTS

A total of 1,120 schoolchildren from Mancor de la Vall, Alaró, Llubí, Vilafranca, Costitx, Santa Maria del Camí, Campanet and Binissalem.
