ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CAMPAIGN
2025/2026
The Mediterranean Climate
Ecosystems of the Balearic Islands
OBJECTIVES
The campaign was aimed at schoolchildren from the Mancomunitat del Raiguer and the Mancomunitat del Pla, with the objective of helping them understand the Mediterranean climate and the influence it exerts on the ecosystems of the Balearic Islands. It also promoted awareness and knowledge of the different types of plant communities found in Mallorca, the ecosystems to which they belong, and the animals that inhabit them. Furthermore, the campaign helped broaden participants’ understanding of the island’s natural environment and foster respect for the environment.
DEVELOPMENT
The publications “The Mediterranean Climate and Its Plant Communities” and “Ecosystems of the Balearic Islands” were reissued. In addition, 16 field trips were organised to different ecosystems in suitable locations: marine ecosystems in Son Serra de Marina; terrestrial ecosystems in the forests of Lluc; mixed ecosystems in the riparian woodland of the Sant Miquel and Vinagrella streams and in various rural areas; and also in the wetlands of Can Figuera.
As in previous years, a drawing and essay competition was organised on the topics covered during the campaign. On 9 June, prizes were awarded for the best drawings and essays submitted by the participating schools.
RECOGNITION
As a token of appreciation for GADMA’s many years of commitment to environmental education for the school’s students, Pedra Viva School presented Bernat Fiol with a framed diploma accompanied by a written tribute prepared by the school.

MAGAZINES
A total of 3,500 copies of the publications “The Mediterranean Climate and Its Plant Communities” and “Ecosystems of the Balearic Islands” were printed.
A noteworthy addition was the creation of a new publication: “The Wonderful World of Insects: Their Importance for Life on Earth”, developed as educational material for the 2026–2027 campaign.
PARTICIPANTS
In this edition, schools from the Mancomunitat del Raiguer and the Mancomunitat del Pla took part, involving a total of 1,230 students and 78 teachers. A field trip was also organised for special education centres.
