ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CAMPAIGN

2010/2011

Endemic species of the Balearic Islands

OBJECTIVES

To complete the educational training of schoolchildren about nature, introducing them to the animals and plants that are unique to the Balearic Islands and which are unknown to many people.
To raise children’s awareness of the nature around them.

DEVELOPMENT

A magazine about the endemic flora and fauna of the Balearic Islands, “Endemismes de les Illes Balears” (Endemics of the Balearic Islands),  was created, published and distributed in the educational centres of the Mancomunitat des Pla and the Mancomunitat des Raiguer. Outings were made mainly to Puig de Massanella to see the endemic flora of the island, and also to the Commune of Bunyola, Commune of Biniamar and Commune of Lloret de Vistalegre.
An educational day was held at CEIP Ponent in Inca, with projections of endemic species of the Balearic Islands, a small drawing competition and a “touch-and-feel” exhibition of indigenous breeds of animals – a “touch-and-feel” exhibition – and a small drawing competition.

MAGAZINES

5,000 magazines were published, of which more than 3,000 were distributed in school centres.

PARTICIPANTS

2,870 schoolchildren from the municipalities of Tramuntana, Nord, Migjorn, Llevant and des Raiguer.
